Big Changes

Posted 29/6/2018

I’m sorry to have to say that as of 28 June 2018 we have removed Crosstrees Chalet from all online booking platforms.  This is due to

a new rating structure being introduced by Auckland Council on 1 July.  Essentially homeowners like ourselves who let out a guest cottage using an online accommodation service will have to move to commercial rates and there will be an additional fee called the Accommodation Provider Targeted Rate (APTR).  The council told me last week that, if we continue to operate Crosstrees Chalet as it is, our rates will increase from $4000 per year to $8000 per year, an amount we cannot sustain.  You can find out more about the new rating structure on this link:    https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/property-rates-valuations/your-rates-bill/Pages/accommodation-provider-targeted-rate.aspx

The good news is that for properties rented out up to 28 nights per year the new rating structure does not apply.  This means the small number who have paid a deposit for bookings next summer can rest assured that we are able to honour those bookings and we look forward to hosting you.

At this time I would like to say a special thank you to Stay Waiheke who have been our cleaning contractors and managed some of our bookings for many years.  We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful guests we have met. Most are from Auckland looking for a handy getaway but there are many others from all over the world who have enriched our lives.  I am happy to say we have never had a bad experience with a guest and it’s nice to be told that we were able to offer a honeymoon spot, romantic getaway or simply a temporary sanctuary from everyday life stresses.

It’s been an honour.

All the best,

Tina and Iain.
