Heading into Summer on Waiheke Island

Posted 31/10/2016

Waiheke Island nzNovember is chocka full of fun events on the island.  It’s that time of year when there are multiple happenings every weekend so there’s plenty for everybody.

The Waiheke Oyster Festival is set for 5th November and promises to be a fabulous day out at nearby Rangihoua Estate.  Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success and completely sold out.

The following weekend is the famous Waiheke Garden Safari  on the 12th and 13th November.  As well as being able to view some fabulous gardens, Rangihoua Estate host the Massive Plant Sale (free entry) where one can find gorgeous plants for far less than usual retail.  All funds raised go the valuable Jassy Dean Trust.

The Waiheke Walking Festival runs from the 19th to the 27 November.  All the walks are free but it is recommended that you book ahead as some of the walks reach capacity.  There are routes for every level of fitness.  There is a five hour one through our neighbourhood led by local Ian Burrows.  Looking at the map it appears the group will pass through some property that isn’t usually available to the public so this is a unique opportunity for exploring the Te Whau area.

Last but certainly not least, for those fans (or not) of Real Housewives of Auckland, you may be interested in the work of Blade NZ who were inspired to create Houseboys of Waiheke.  Their entertaining video also includes some great cinematic shots of the island.

A huge thank you to our guests for your complimentary reviews.  We do appreciate it.  For daily photos of Waiheke (and sometimes other places) follow us on instagram (Waiheke365).

Happy holidays and we hope to see you over the summer.

Tina and Iain.
